Wind Minstrel Technologies Website Design.

There are many aspects of a website that can make it good enough to be consistently within the top ten. Below are a list of aspects to consider when deciding to design your website and the portrayal of your company, group or personal website on-line.
- Design - should be consistent across the whole of the site. Different themes and colours make the site look untidy and inconsistent.
- Colours - many people think that gaudy colours and themes make for a better looking website. You must take into account aspects such as people with colour blindness - light green text on a dark green background may look funky to you, but perhaps not so to others. Do not be afraid of using white backgrounds, it gives the text more clarity and is easier to read if the page contains a lot of text. People don't buy books with various coloured pages, why make an informative website with them?
- CSS - Cascading Style Sheets make your website more attractive and is easier to manage.
- Meta Data - something overlooked in many cases, this is part of the text that may increase your positions in search engines such as Google, it does make a difference and is worthwhile having the correct information in this section.
- Search Engines - there are many search engines, only one true master - Google. Your website can be optimised to take advantage of inclusion into this monolithic search engine. Wind Minstrel websites consistantly retain good positions in their specified field.
- KISS - a widely used term meaning 'Keep It Simple, Stupid'. Nowadays a more potent term with the advent of people over-stuffing websites with meaningless and bandwidth consuming images and all manner of flashing banners and such like. Keeping the formula of a website crisp, clean and efficient, means less stress for your potential client in navigating your website and also a speedier page load time. Although broadband is more widely used than ever, not everybody is hooked up to speedy connections. Remember also people using laptops on the move and browsing the web with a mobile telephone. Accessibility is a key point.
- Favicon - a little image that show up in the browser address bar. When people bookmark your page a small image will be saved also. This is only a small aspect of your website, but gives a more professional appearance to your friends, clients, or the casual browser. Note: Favicon's in Internet Explorer 6 are occasionaly not shown, IE7, IE8 and Firefox generally display the favicon.
- Analytics - this is the time consuming part when dealt with in the correct manner. Google provide a small Java script that sits within the page, collecting information about your visitors. Upon logging into your account, you may see all the aspects of the people who visit your website. Landing and exit pages, visitor map, browser and OS, country, city, keywords, .....the list goes on, but can be invaluable in relation to the marketing aspect of your website.
- XML - XML data pages itemise and list the pages in your website, these need to be correctly formulated and updated whenever your site alters.
